IRS Differential Bushing Installation

Installation

First remove the passengers side IRS bushing with a 21mm deep socket and 15mm box end wrench. Then remove the bolt and slide the old bushing out. The stock bushing is in two pieces. Top is a round bushing with a hole in it and the bottom is round with a center sleeve. You may have to lower the cat-back part of the exhaust to get the socket between the exhaust and nut to remove it. Note: The bolt head and nut are both 18mm on the Cobra.

Install upper IRS bushing without the GOLD ½" washer on top. Slide over hole and insert.

Next slide washer over top of bushings and between the subframe.

Next install the center sleeve into the upper bushing and install the lower bushing over the sleeve and into the hole.

Then reinstall the bolt through the subframe and through the center sleeve.
Position another GOLD ½" washer on the bottom and install the nut.

Install the nut over the threads as shown then repeat the removal and installation on the other side.
Then tighten the nut to 30-40 ft lb MAX to set proper bushing preload.

Note: Overtighting the nut will cause the sleeve to cut into the washer.

Note: The polyurethane durometer is 88 while the sleeve is grade 5 yellow zinc washed and the the washers are grade 8 yellow zinc washed. Our own tests have shown the use of a grade 8 washer resists against the sleeve cutting into it over time. Lower torque ratings for the nut are required to reduce  damage to the washers.
