Before starting you will need the following:
Recommended spark plugs are Motorcraft AWSF-34PP, or Autolite APP 2544. Make sure the spark plugs are double platinum. Plugs not recommended are Bosch, NGK & Split Fire. Dielectric grease is also recommended to reduce moisture buildup in the boots, and prevent voltage leaks.
Replace the plug wires with some high performance (low resistance)
wires. MN12 Performance recommends plug wires from Magnecor 10mm fits 1989-1995
3.8L SC. Magnecor wires offer less resistance, about 3000 ohms per
foot compared to 6000 ohms for the stock wires. Magnecor
Competition Ignition Cables (unlike conventional resistive carbon conductor
ignition wires) use a 2.5mm Metallic Inductance Suppressed conductor and
are specifically designed to conduct the total output of the ignition coil
(which, with some racing ignition systems can be considerable) and provide
RFI (radio frequency interference) and EMI (electro magnetic interference)
suppression.
The spark plugs and wires on the 3.8L SC engine can be removed by accessing them from underneath the car. Before beginning jack the driver side of the car up and block the wheels. The driver side plugs and wires can be accessed by reaching up past the exhaust manifold and pulling the boots off the plugs. It is easier if you have a 1/4 in ratchet with your spark plug socket due to the tight confines of the plugs. (Note: On the 1994-1995 3.8L SC cars you can access the 5 & 6 plugs from the top due to a smaller brake resivour.) Next, remove the driver side plug wires with the separators and lay them aside while you remove the spark plugs. Gap the new spark plugs between .052 - .056 or per the emissions label. Install the spark plugs with 7-13 lbs of torque. Next, lay the new plug wires down next to the old plug wires and identify the correct length wires. Unclip the stock wires from the separators and modify the clips to accept the 10mm wires (see picture) clip them in the same location on the new wires. Not all wire looms will be required when the new plug wires are installed. If you break a wire loom a new clip is available from Motormite part# 40288. Be sure to add some dielectric grease to each end of the plug wire boot before installing them on the plugs & coil pack. Remove the rest of the wires on the distributor and install the drivers side boots over the #4, #5, & #6 cylinders(see diagram). (Note: verify that the plug wires are fully seated on the plugs and the clips are fully seated on the distributor).
